Singapore Airlines knows what it’s doing. No airline is perfect, but Singapore Airlines has earned its prestigious reputation as a fan favorite among frequent fliers. Experiencing one of their long-haul premium cabins has always been an AvGeek dream of mine. So, when I snagged an award ticket for a trip to Asia and Australia — and on the A380 upper deck, no less — my excitement was through the roof!

Let’s not bury the lede. This flight was exceptional — the airborne equivalent of attending a world-class orchestra performance. From pre-boarding moments at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport to touchdown at Singapore Changi, the journey showcased precision and luxury. Without further ado, let’s dive into my Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class experience.

Touring Tullamarine Airport

Flying out of Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport was a treat in itself. Known for its wide variety of airlines and long-haul aircraft, the airport offered plenty of plane-spotting opportunities.

I got an up-close view of the stunning Airbus A380 that would serve as my chariot to Singapore. Fun fact: Singapore Airlines was the A380’s launch customer, a milestone in aviation history.

Singapore Airlines Lounge

Before boarding, I stopped by the airline’s lounge located on the level below the main concourse. While the lounge was nothing over-the-top, it checked the essential boxes — comfortable seating, plenty of outlets, and a variety of food and beverages. Though, being heavily crowded closer to boarding was a downside.

A neat touch was the boarding access directly from the lounge floor to the plane’s upper deck. No need to shuffle through the main terminal — now that’s seamless!

Meet the Seat

Boarding the upper deck of the A380 is an AvGeek thrill unlike any other. The business class cabin, spanning almost the entire upper deck, blew me away with its massive footprint.

The 1-2-1 seat layout created an air of privacy, even in such a spacious cabin. The window seats were perfect for solo travelers like myself, while paired center seats were ideal for travelers flying together.

Singapore Airlines’ Signature Service

The service onboard lived up to the legendary hype. From the moment the seat belt sign turned off, the cabin crew sprang into action, delivering a beverage menu that included a diverse selection of wines, teas, coffees, and cocktails.

Business Class Menu and Beverage Selection

For my dinner starter, the panzanella salad with prawns was plated beautifully. The main course, a braised lamb neck dish curated by celebrity chef Matt Moran, was astonishingly delicious — bursting with flavors and cooked to perfection.

Even the refreshment meal before landing didn’t disappoint. I opted for the Mee Goreng noodles, which provided a flavorful end to the dining experience.

Entertainment and Comfort

Singapore Airlines’ KrisWorld inflight entertainment system proved to be one of the best in the skies. The noise-canceling headphones elevated my movie-watching experience as I enjoyed a generous library of films.

When it came time for rest, the seat transitioned into a fully flat bed. Though the angular footwell design wasn’t perfect, the spaciousness made up for it.

The Verdict

From start to finish, my flight aboard Singapore Airlines’ A380 Business Class was a masterclass in customer experience. The space, design, dining, and service reflected an airline that truly knows its craft. If you’ve ever dreamed of enjoying the ultimate air travel experience, Singapore Airlines’ A380 Business Class doesn’t just meet expectations — it soars above them.
